Information Campaign Aims to Prevent Irregular Migration from Mali
"IOM and the Government of Mali are today launching a nationwide information campaign to raise public awareness of the dangers of irregular migration in order to better prevent it. The campaign entitled ""To Leave…But at What Cost?"" (Partir…Mais à quel prix?) is funded by the European Commission and the Government of Mali and follows similar campaigns in Senegal, Niger, Cameroon, Nigeria and Ghana. Jointly run by IOM and the Government of Mali with the support of state-run and private media and with the involvement of local artists, the month-long campaign aims to combat significant levels of irregular migration from Mali. As part of the campaign, IOM will travel with government counterparts to the western and southern regions of Kaye and Sikasso, which have traditionally experienced high levels of migration to North and West Africa but also to Europe.
