IOM Congratulates Government of Mali and Signatories to Peace Agreement
"Mali - IOM believes that the halt in the fighting in Mali observed during the past weeks will continue and pave the way for the return of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees to their areas of origin.
IOM also believes that peace and stability in the country will contribute to reducing the further displacement of people already returned to their places of origin.
With expertise acquired in Mali and several countries around the world, IOM is ready to support the people of Mali through direct assistance, livelihood, community stabilization and peace building initiatives alongside all humanitarian and development actors.
Since 2012, IOM and the Government of Mali have worked together to maintain the database of displaced and returned people following the conflict of 2012. The reports provided will serve for planning purpose for all humanitarian actors. IOM protection teams operate in Bamako, Mopti, Timbuktu and Gao and provide direct assistance to IDPs, returnees and host communities since 2012.
IOM’s livelihoods and community stabilization initiatives started in 2013 and now include the provision of peace dividend activities in affected communities.
